I posted a Dolly Mixture video a few weeks back but I’ve took a notion to post a little more. Dolly Mixture were an all female twee/post-punk/new wave band who existed from 1978 to 1984. Here’s a song from their 1983 album Demonstration Tapes, called Angel Treads.
I highly recommend downloading (or purchasing, if you can find it) Demonstration Tapes. There are 27 tracks and not a single bad one amongst the bunch. There are a bunch of singles and an E.P that are also worth hearing. I’ve heard rumours about a Dolly Mixture documentary, but information is scarce online. If anybody can find it, let me know!

There are plenty of great songs written about New York. This is definitely one of my favourites; New York City by They Might Be Giants.
So romantic!

James sitting in a chair.
The new Julian Casblancas song is totally amazing. Listen to it!
I went to see The Patter Merchants performing their version of Abigail’s Party at Stereo on Monday. I’ve only ever seen Mike Leigh’s TV adaptation (which I love to death) so it was fun to see it performed in the flesh. It was hilarious. I haven’t laughed so much in a long time. If you ever get the chance to see it, please do. I tried to find some clips on YouTube but there were only a couple, neither of which really do it justice. Take my advice and buy the DVD. I’m sure you could get it on Amazon or wherever.
This evening I finally got a chance to see Beautiful Losers, which was screening at the Glasow Centre For Contemporary Art as part the DIY Glasgow festival. For those who don’t know, it’s a documentary from 2008 which focuses on Aaron Rose’s Alleged Gallery and a bunch of artists and filmmakers who were involved, most of which who came from a Skateboarding background. Ed Templeton, Barry McGee, Margaret Kilgallen, Jo Jackson, Chris Johanson, Thomas Campbell, Geoff McFetridge, Mike Mills, Harmony Korine and a few more are featured. It’s pretty inspiring stuff. It made me want to come home and paint. I guess it’ll be out on DVD at some point so pick it up! Here’s the trailer.
Fuck Buttons tomorrow night. Should be trippy. Also, this guy is hot.
